A $219.3 million rebuild is underway at I-4 and Sand Lake Road

FDOT’s combined design-build (financial project numbers 444315-1 and 444315-3) lists the construction cost at $219,342,910.12, with The Lane Construction Corp. building a full diverging-diamond reconstruction of the interchange, longer ramps, added capacity on Sand Lake and Turkey Lake roads, and new barrier-separated westbound express lanes. A new loop ramp opened in May 2026. FDOT’s own pages disagree on the finish — one lists late 2027, its companion early 2027.

From our comments

“More tolls… Is that the solution?”

@thiago_l_teixeiral asked this in April 2026 — on the reel

“DDI isn’t the answer. Traffic’s gotten worse. 8 yrs driving daily, Darrel Carter & Champions Gate saw increased congestion post-installation. Exit 55 next? Synchronizing lights would’ve been better.”
