Epic Universe: open 15 months, already pouring foundations for its next rides

Epic Universe just finished its first full summer, and Universal is already building what comes next: permits show a roughly 150,000-square-foot show building rising near the Ministry of Magic and a second 70,000-square-foot structure planned for the middle of Dark Universe, neither officially announced. The park is still Universal Orlando's revenue engine, but crowds have cooled — Comcast says Orlando attendance softened starting in June, and September hours are being trimmed to 10am–8pm. The park's first after-hours event, Universal Nights, runs October 3 and 17, with tickets on sale now from $179.99.

Epic Universe: construction is under way on the park's first post-opening attraction

Heavy equipment, trailers and water trucks moved onto the expansion plot behind Dark Universe in late August, and berm trees along Kirkman Road have come down. Orange County permits list Whiting-Turner as general contractor for the project, a third ride for the Dark Universe area. Universal has not said what the ride is.
